Poor surface prep is the number one reason thin brick falls off the wall. Dust, grease, loose paint, and moisture all weaken the bond between adhesive and substrate.
Start by removing outlet covers, thermostats, and trim thinner than half an inch. Tape off anything you can't remove. Lay plastic sheeting on the floor for easy cleanup.
If your wall is painted, go over the entire surface with 80-grit sandpaper using small circular motions. You don't need to remove the paint. The goal is to rough up the finish enough for adhesive to grip. Wipe the wall down with a dry cloth afterward to clear the dust.
For bare drywall, concrete, or cement backer board, make sure the surface is sound, flat, and free of debris. Fill cracks and low spots with patching compound and let it dry before moving on.
The wrong adhesive is an expensive lesson. Standard construction adhesive or Type S mortar will not bond reliably through mesh-mounted brick sheets. Type S and Type N mortars are grouting products, not bonding agents for Brickwebb®.

Skipping layout lines is where straight rows turn crooked. One slightly off row at the top compounds into a visible wave by the bottom of the wall.
From the top of your wall, measure and mark light pencil lines every 21 inches. Each Brickwebb® sheet covers roughly that height, so your marks become a built-in alignment check. Snap a level chalk line at your starting point and verify it with a 4-foot level.
This takes about ten minutes and saves hours of frustration. On a backsplash or accent wall, even a quarter-inch drift is noticeable from across the room.
Corners set the alignment for everything else on the wall. If you install field sheets first and try to fit corners later, the spacing rarely lines up and you end up with awkward cuts or visible gaps.
Brickwebb® corner pieces wrap around outside edges so the brick appears full-depth from both sides. Start at the top of the corner and work down. Apply adhesive with a 3/8-inch by 1/4-inch notched trowel, press the corner sheet firmly, and check level before moving to the next section.
Once corners are set and level, the field sheets lock in naturally. That consistency shows up in the finished look, especially on fireplace surrounds and kitchen islands where multiple sides are visible.
Uneven joints are the most visible sign of a rushed install. Traditional loose thin brick requires individual spacers between every piece. Brickwebb® eliminates that step because the patented mesh mounting holds twelve real clay bricks in pre-set alignment.
Apply adhesive to a small section of the wall, not more than you can cover in a few minutes. Press the sheet into the adhesive firmly enough that the product keys through the mesh webbing. Leave 3/8-inch gaps where sheets meet for grout.
Stagger vertical seams between rows so they don't stack in a column. Check level every two or three rows. If a sheet slips before the adhesive sets, two small drywall screws through the mesh will hold it in place. You can grout right over them.
Grouting too early is one of the most common mistakes, and one of the hardest to fix. If bricks shift while you push grout into the joints, you'll end up with crooked rows locked permanently in place.
Wait a full 24 hours after setting your last sheet. Check that bricks feel solid and don't move when pressed. If conditions are cold or humid, add extra drying time. The adhesive label will specify cure times for your environment.
Use this waiting period to plan your grout approach and gather materials. You'll need Type S mortar mix or sanded grout, a grout bag, a 3/4-inch brick jointer, a stiff-bristle brush, and clean rags.
Grout stains on brick faces are difficult to remove once they dry. The key is keeping mortar in the joints and off the surface.
Trim the tip of your grout bag to about half an inch wide. Fill sections of roughly four square feet at a time, slightly overfilling each joint. Do not wipe wet grout from brick faces. Wet mortar smears and spreads the stain.
Give each section about 15 minutes to firm up. When the grout is dry enough to touch without sticking to your finger but soft enough to compress slightly, run the heel of your brick jointer along the joints. Push mortar in and away from you. Excess will fall cleanly.
After tooling, wait for the grout to firm a bit more. Then brush the brick faces at a 45-degree angle with a stiff bristle brush. If mortar streaks on the face or loads onto the brush, it's still too wet. Wait and try again.

You can install Brickwebb® over painted surfaces after sanding with 80-grit sandpaper. The sanding roughs up the paint enough for Old Mill adhesive to grip. Wipe the wall with a dry cloth after sanding to remove dust before applying adhesive.
